Romance Movies
Romance films or romance movies are romantic love stories recorded in visual media for broadcast in theaters and on TV that focus on passion, emotion, and the affectionate romantic involvement of the main characters and the journey that their love takes them through dating, courtship or marriage.
There are several sub-genres of romance movies. Among them are 1) Historical Romance, 2) Romantic Comedy and 3) Chick Flick.
Historical Romance is a broad category of fiction in which the plot takes place in a setting located in the past.
𝑮𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅, is a novel by American writer Margaret Mitchell, first published in 1936. The story is set in Clayton Country and Atlanta, both in Georgia, during the American Civil War and Reconstruction Era.
An example of a Romantic Comedy is 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏, (1990), directed by Garry Marshall, and starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts.
Romantic Comedy is a sub-genre of comedy and slice-of-life fiction, focusing on lighthearted, humorous plot lines centered on romantic ideas, such as how true love is able to surmount most obstacles.
Originally intended to be a dark cautionary tale about class and prostitution in Los Angels,the film was re-conceived as a romantic comedy with a large budget.
An example of a Chick Flick is 𝑻𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕, (2008), directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Chick Flick is a slang term, sometimes used pejoratively, for the film genre catered specifically to woman’s interests, and is marketed towards woman demographics.
This film focuses on the development of the relationship between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, and the subsequent efforts of Edward and his family to keep Bella safe from a coven of evil vampires.
